What I learned for the master leaders
George interviewed 30 high power leaders from all areas from sports, business, entertainment and more
To put together over a 1000 years of wisdom and knowledge
There are 6 leadership check points
Some of these you want care about some you will. Figure out why you don’t care about. Think about someone who this might be of value too.
7 reasons why the church needs great leaders to step up
1. The more selfish our society becomes the more critical godly leadership is. ~ Leader that encourage us to get our mind off our self
2. The more choices people have, without a biblical worldview as their foundation, the more confused our priorities become and the more crucial godly vision and strategy are.
3. In times of rapid cultural change, the rules are different, the completion stiffer, the stakes higher, the opportunities greater- necessitating superior leadership to guide us forward
4. Recent poor decisions and behavior by high profile leaders have ushered in an era of criticism, skepticism, and mistrust, requiring a new generation of wise and godly leaders to restore public trust and confidence
5. In a culture that rejects absolute moral and spiritual truth, and that esteems extreme choice, the results are confusion, stress, distraction, busyness, and chaos the antidote to which is focused leaders who can make sense of reality provide vision and deliver to provide direction
6. Our culture has adopted a hyper individualisms that undermines community, nation and persona relationships, raising the need for an emphasis upon team based leadership
7. Church has given lip service to leadership but suffer from a paucity of genuine leaders who are guiding people toward true Christ-like transformation.
There’s a difference from teaching and leading
6 leadership check points
- Leaders can strategically change reality, but they cannot intentionally change people. ~ once people reach 13 they change very little
Four development stages
Preteen experimentation establishment, teenage-refinement application, adult-consistency transmission, senior-re-evaluation
Recognize people for who God made them to be
2. Nobody is the “complete leadership package” so it’s important to work in a leadership team. ~God wants us dependent of him ~ a team all ways outperform individuals ~ “none of us is smart as all of us” Ken Blanchard
Realize what you posses and you don’t
Come together on shared vision and common values.
- Best team
- Small in #s
- Spend time together
- Lean on the captain
- Share vision, values, passion
- Vulnerable and communicate
- Strive to empower people to achieve the vision
3. One of the most undervalued and least common skills amount leaders is listening.
- I think God want us to listen more than speak, otherwise he would have given us 2 mouths.
- We should lead with our ears
- You cannot listen effectively unless you are willing to have your mind changed “ken Blanchard
- Leaders gather information
- It takes practice and discipline to listen effectively
- Are you willing to take the time and energy to learn to listen
4. Leaders must master conflict and confrontation
- Normalize it
- Make handling it another tool in the tool box
- leaders seek the truth
- seize the imitative
- Do your homework
- Position yourself as a friend, not a foe
- Ask clarifying question and listen to what is said
- seek a win-win outcome
5. Success is helping people achieve their potential _in Christ
- you get what you measure
- Jesus didn’t die for you measurable
- we measure the wrong stuff
- successful leaders will make themselves unpopular
- leader can’t ask other to operate outside their comfort zone but not work outside theirs
- you have to other see the vision and how they benefit from it
6.Do not accept a leadership position unless you’re ready to pay a stiff price. the more significant the outcome you seek to achieve, the more substantial the price you can expect to pay
- pressure purify you and prepares you
- 2 kinds of pressure internal and external
Foundations:
God
Convictions
family and close friends
- you don’t lead cause you want to lead you lead cause you called to lead
- be up front with who you are and what you stand for
- its God vision not your vision
People need to be lead
Leadership is not a job it’s a calling from God
Commit yourself and others to a vision
The vision should be from God
Success is to cooperate with God to facilllate change
