Let Him Shine

My boss shared an email with me recently that really made me think. It was one of those funny ones that are supposed to make you laugh. And I laughed a little, but then I started wondering how well I let Christ shine through me.
It went a little like this: A lady is driving along in a mad rush when another vehicle cuts over in front of her and stops when the light turns yellow instead of blasting through it (like I’m sure I would have done). Well, lady in a rush gets angry and begins yelling and waiving her arms, flipping the law abiding driver off, etc., etc. Little does “lady in a rush” know, but a cop is behind her. He immediately orders her out of the car, cuffs her and hauls her off to jail. After a few hours in a holding cell she is brought back to the booking area and there the officer is, holding her belongings ready to let her be on her way. The officer’s words to her really got my attention: “I owe you an apology ma’am. You see, I saw you screaming and using foul gestures, then I saw the WWJD bumper sticker, the Choose Life sticker, and other Christian emblems and naturally I assumed you had stolen the car.” Needless to say she left with her head hung down in embarrassment.
So, the questions I have been asking myself are, what do I do to let Christ shine through me? Is it enough? And most important of all… WWJD? I have a pretty intense work environment and at times it is hard to maintain a Christian attitude so this one hits home for me. We need to examine ourselves and see that we are being all that He wants us to be.
“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:3-5).
I want to end by thanking my wonderful husband for letting me guest blog this week. I love you so much and thank God for you everyday!
